About this Event
The Center for Careers in Government (CCG) presents workshops across the State where you can learn about careers in public service with New York State! All positions in New York State come with competetive salaries, health benefits, time off, a retirement package, and more!
This session, hosted by the New York State Department of Civil Service at the Orange County Career Center – Middletown, will provide a clear overview of the NYS Civil Service Merit System, including its background, appointment types, and agency structure. You’ll also learn about the Civil Service exam process, how to access and navigate relevant websites, and the NY HELPS program — a streamlined hiring initiative for state agencies to quickly appoint qualified, diverse employees without exams.
The workshop will demystify the merit system, review the steps involved in civil service appointments, and explore career pathways available within the NYS public service. It’s designed to help attendees understand how to navigate the system, prepare for exams, and identify opportunities for advancement in state government.
