The event is for all artists, specialists, teachers, or students who are connected to or interested in the Middle East and Middle Eastern cultures. We are creating a platform to meet, to share our artistic and life experiences making a stage that prospers art, voices, and opinions.
It is our mission as artists to develop ourselves and our art, to face new voices and stories that we have never heard before, spread awareness through performances, music, theatre, and discussions. Especially these days that we are witnessing injustice and racism, we need to raise our voices through art against all unequal practices. As scholars we need to study and understand these stories. And as citizens of the world, we can take our place in the dialogue.
Participating artists and presenters include Bakr Hasan (Iraq), Hazem Al Sharif (Palestina), Nemat Battah (Jordan), Ramithawi (Syria), Soroush Sayedi (Iran), Ali Saad & Sanna Salmenkallio (Iraq – Finland), Saddam Aljumaily (Iraq), Kholoud Hawash (Iraq), Maryam Bagheri (Iran), Yousef Asaad Alkhateeb (Syria), NAFAS (Hassan Assaleh, Jalal Hajali, Youssef Assad Alkhatib, Salla Raunio (Syria – Finland), Jussi Lehtonen (Finland), Susanna Hast (Finland).

The Middle Eastern Evening is a University of the Arts Helsinki production by Theatre Academy in cooperation with CERADA, Sibelius Academy, and Academy of Fine Arts.
Behind the event is the Middle East Project:
The Middle East project started under the Dance Pedagogy master’s programme in Theatre Academy, the University of the Arts Helsinki in January 2021.
The project is based on the importance of recognizing the value of different cultures and conceptions of art in higher arts education. The aim is to provide the University of Arts Helsinki community an opportunity to widen awareness about Middle Eastern art and culture. The purpose of the project is also to support Middle Eastern artists in developing their craft and learning about Finnish culture. The aim is also to provide them information and opportunities for working in Finland.
The Middle Eastern Evening is only the beginning of the project. We hope to provide more events in the future and include artists from Europe and all over the world.
