This annual fishing competition helps to raise funds for the Mid Western Rugby Club Junior teams. Funds raised from the competition are primarily put towards purchasing and updating gear, playing kit and uniforms, etc. and help our kids put their best foot forward out on the field.COMPETITION CATEGORIES

Note: All early bird tickets that have been purchased will go in the draw to win a Cobb Grill kindly sponsored by Windlebourne Contracting and Carl Tomich Livestock. The early bird draw will take place on briefing night (Thursday 5th March 2026) and you will need to be present to claim the prize.
GENERAL RULES
Rules for the competition remain the same as previous years tournaments. Some key points to highlight include:
1. Fishing starts at 3pm on Friday 21st February and finishes at 3pm on Saturday 22nd February.
2. You must be queued in the weigh in line at Mid Western Rugby Club before 4pm Saturday 22nd, otherwise no weigh in.
3. Fishing can be undertaken anywhere geographically, but MPI rules for the East Coast/ Whangārei Harbour apply to all weighed in fish: https://www.mpi.govt.nz/.../919-Auckland-and-Kermadec...
4. Fishing must be with rods, reels and hand lines only
5. All Kahawai weighed in must be bled.
