About this Event
Led by Brian Oberlin, the Michigan Mandolin Orchestra has been bringing its eclectic sound to venues across Michigan since 2019. Based in Grand Rapids, the MMO plays an incredibly diverse lineup for each concert series and this Spring event welcomes seasoned and new concert goers. The Dvorak portion of the show will feature Oberlin's orchestration of the finale from the famous Wind Serenade, Op. 44. The dances are plentiful including The Polish Suite by Tomasz Kiesewetter, Samba by Dieter Kreidler, Creaking Tree by Darol Anger and a Spanish Dance arranged by Bob Phillips. Other pieces include Scottish Airs by Gustav Holst and Pavane by Gabriel Faure. Rounding out every concert are a few selections featuring Oberlin and a few members of the group playing swing and bluegrass. The orchestra’s 16 members are professional musicians, music teachers, arrangers, composers, and musical hobbyists. They perform their music on mandolins, mandolas, octave mandolins, mandocellos, guitars and contrabass, with some orchestra members adept at several of the instruments.
