Make plans now to gather your family members and friends and head for the historic Michigan Central Station in Detroit on Saturday, March 21st. You will be treated to a tour of the magnificently restored station and learn about the many enterprises housed on the 30-acre campus—including a luxury hotel that will occupy the upper levels of the MC building—and hear about the recently announced commitment by Michigan Central, MDOT, and the City of Detroit to undertake initial research and engineering for a proposed multimodal transportation hub adjacent to the former train station. The tour will begin at 10:00 AM, on Saturday, March 21, 2026, followed by a no-host lunch at the famous Corktown Slow's Bar BQ located nearby at 2138 Michigan Ave Detroit, MI 48216
Michigan Central Station is located at 2001 15th St in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood. Parking is available at the Bagley Mobility Hub ($5), with a 15th Street pedestrian bridge connecting to the station's east entrance. Click here for parking information.
So we will have an idea of how many will be on the tour, please send an email to [email protected].
The cost of the lunch at Slow’s is $35 (includes tip). You will be given a choice of two meats from a selection of 4 and 2 sides from a selection of 5, plus carrot cake and soda. They will box your carrot cake to take with you.
If you plan on lunch, we must have your payment no later than Monday, March 16. You may go to MARP's Donation page to pay with a credit or debit card. Designate your $35 per person payment as “Other” and on the following page, where it says write a note, type March 21 Luncheon. Or, you may send your check ($35 per person) to Treasurer Jeanie Merckel, 33373 Hampshire Road, Livonia MI 48154-2952.
In keeping with Executive Committee member Eric Schertzing’s recent work to build membership, you are urged to invite a friend (or two) to join you in what promises to be an exciting day exploring a project that could see trains again in the vicinity of one of the grandest stations in the country.
