Critically acclaimed vocalist and “Las Vegas’ First Lady of Jazz,” Michelle Johnson, returns to The Smith Center with her new show “Girl Power! – A Celebration of Musical Sheroes” on June 22. This uplifting show takes us on a musical journey in a celebration of the talent, resilience, and brilliance of some of the most iconic and powerful female figures in music. Highlights include stories and music from the female jazz legends of the '40s and '50s, the girl groups of the '60s, and the pop and R&B divas whose hits span from the 1970s to today.Michelle is known for her soaring vocals, versatile repertoire, and sold-out productions at The Smith Center and at performing arts centers across the country. Beyond her work as a Broadway actor, national cabaret artist and Las Vegas headliner, Michelle has also performed, toured or recorded with legendary artists including Paul McCartney, Michael Bublé, The Eagles, Barbra Streisand, Elton John, Gladys Knight, David Foster, Sheena Easton, Wynonna, Slash, Donnie Osmond, and many more. Michelle is the 2020 Las Vegas Black Music Awards recipient of the Lena Horne Award for Musical Excellence and she is also a 2022 and 2023 Broadway World award winner and the recipient of the National Association of Women Business Owners Woman of Distinction Award for her contributions in entertainment.
Musical Director Dan Ellis has played countless shows up and down the Strip and has served as pianist and/or musical director for many of them. Dan served as Michelle’s first musical director in Las Vegas, and the two have collaborated on several projects since then. Dan also toured Japan three times with Sheena Easton, and he is currently musical director for Rich Little, Frankie Scinta (the Scintas).
