Dopo numerose esibizioni in solo, portate in scena sui palchi di tutta Europa, Michael Gira e Kristof Hahn si uniscono per dare vita a un progetto inedito. Un’occasione unica per ascoltare gemme nascoste della celebre carriera degli Swans, una delle realtà più interessanti del neo-movimento acustico internazionale. Sarà anche l’occasione per entrare in contatto con le loro personali visioni musicali in un connubio speciale per riscoprire i brani più celebri degli Swans rivisitati in chiave inedita e tante altre sorprese (si, per l’occassione verranno indossati costumi di peluche).

Michael Gira founded the seminal NYC band Swans in 1982. Quickly infamous for their punishing, brutal and repetitive onslaughts of sound, extreme volume levels, and the self-abusing, abject shouts and growls of Gira’s sloganeering vocals, Swans gradually transformed over 15 years, ultimately venturing into harsh mechanical proto-industrial rock, to sprawling shifts of texture and perspective (see the bucolic atmospheric folk idles and martial stomps of their much heralded Children of God double LP from 1987), to gentle acoustic-based songs, and finally on to their ultimate statement, Soundtracks For The Blind (1997) which somehow incorporated all of these elements at once, across well over 2 hours of music in one album.
At this point, Gira called it quits after 15 years of relentless touring and productivity, and disbanded Swans. Since 1999 Gira has released his music under the name Angels Of Light. He writes the songs for Angels Of Light on acoustic guitar and orchestrates them using a shifting cadre of musicians, employing a wide variety of instrumentation such as strings, wind, brass, electric guitars, electronics and choral vocals. The songs are often eccentric and extreme, in keeping with Gira’s love of soundtrack music.

Conosciuti in tutto il mondo per i loro suoni brutali e ripetitivi, per i livelli di volume estremi e per le urla della voce sloganistica di Gira, gli Swans si sono gradualmente trasformati nel corso di 15 anni, avventurandosi infine in un rock proto-industriale. Da tentativi di cambiare consistenza e prospettiva (vedi il folk atmosferico e bucolico e gli stomp marziali del doppio LP Children of God del 1987), a dolci canzoni acustiche e infine alla loro affermazione definitiva, Soundtracks For The Blind (1997), che in qualche modo incorporava tutti questi elementi contemporaneamente, in oltre due ore di musica in un solo album. Dopo 15 anni di incessanti tournée e di produttività, Gira si è ritirato e ha sciolto gli Swans. Dal 1999 Gira pubblica la sua musica con il nome di Angels Of Light. Scrive le canzoni di Angels Of Light con la chitarra acustica e le orchestra con un gruppo di musicisti in continua evoluzione, impiegando un'ampia varietà di strumenti come archi, fiati, ottoni, chitarre elettriche, elettronica e voci corali. Le canzoni sono spesso eccentriche ed estreme, in linea con l'amore di Gira per le colonne sonore.
KRISTOF HAHN
Kristof Hahn is an experimental, avant-rock’n’roll guitar player. He lives and works in Berlin. Hahn’s music ranges from abstract cinematic soundscapes to elegant rock’n’roll noir songs.
Hahn is best known for his lap-steel guitar playing in the New York experimental rock band Swans. He joined the band in 1989 for the Burning World tour and played on the subsequent album “White Light from the Mouth of Infinity” (1990). He left the band in 1992, joined SWANS’ bandleader Michael Gira’s follow-up project Angels of Light in 1998 and became a constant member of the SWANS relaunch from 2010 until 2017.
Hahn is also the founder of the Berlin based bands Les Hommes Sauvages and Sultans of Gedankebrain and has collaborated with a variety of artists from different backgrounds such as Alex Chilton, Tav Falco, Thomas Wydler, and Pere Ubu. His approach to the lap-steel guitar is less rooted in traditions but more drone-oriented, creating vast soundscapes that at times erupt into sonic thunderstorms and at other times resolve into ethereal melodies.
Chitarrista sperimentale, la musica di Hahn spazia da astratti paesaggi sonori cinematografici a eleganti canzoni rock'n'roll noir. Hahn è noto soprattutto per aver suonato la chitarra lap-steel nella band newyorkese di rock sperimentale Swans. Si è unito alla band nel 1989 per il tour Burning World e ha suonato nel successivo album “White Light from the Mouth of Infinity” (1990). Ha lasciato la band nel 1992, si è unito al progetto successivo di Michael Gira, Angels of Light, nel 1998 ed è diventato un membro costante del rilancio degli SWANS dal 2010 al 2017. Hahn è anche il fondatore delle band berlinesi Les Hommes Sauvages e Sultans of Gedankebrain e ha collaborato con una serie di artisti di diversa estrazione come Alex Chilton, Tav Falco, Thomas Wydler e Pere Ubu. Il suo approccio alla chitarra lap-steel è meno radicato nelle tradizioni ma più orientato al drone, creando vasti paesaggi sonori che a volte esplodono in tempeste sonore e altre volte si risolvono in melodie eteree.
