About this Event
Speaker's Corner is the oldest living, free speech platform in the world.
Used by the likes of Mahatma Gandhi, Karl Marx, George Orwell (oh, and Olympian, Leon Taylor ahead of his talk at TEDxClapham πΈ ); this summer, we're giving MicDrop members the chance to follow in their footsteps...
With a twist πβπ©!
For starters, we're going to meet on a Thursday evening rather than the traditional meeting time of Sunday afternoon.
Secondly, you're going to be treating London's commuters to something a little less contentious and a lot more joyful than the usual speeches on politics or religion...
A poem!
Here's why:
1. Poems are your gateway to a whole new level of audience connection β‘οΈ,
2. Reading one is a perfect opportunity to build your stage presence π€,
3. And, increase your 'performance intelligence' by holding an audience in an unpredictable environment π§ .
This is our first ever summer social - so we would love as many of you as possible to join us π«Ά.

FAQs
1. Do I have to memorise the poem π?
Totally up to you. Which ever option you choose is a chance to test yourself in a slightly different way.
2. How long does the poem have to be π?
While there's no formal time limit, we suggest that poems last between 1 and 2 minutes to keep the evening flowing.
3. Can we share a little context about why we chose the poem we did π€?
Absolutely - that can often deepen the audience experience.
4. Are you worried about the weather π¦οΈ?
Terrified, but without risk, theres' no reward!
The Poetry Slam will take place come rain or shine (so bring a brolly). However we will reserve a space at a nearby pub should the bring-your-own-picnic option no longer make sense.
5. Do you have any tips on how to recite a poem π?
Yes I do! Available to all upon purchasing of a ticket.
