Benjamin Russell studied at the International Opera Studio, Zurich Opera House, having received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, where he studied with coach Brenda Hurley and teacher Sylvia O'Regan.
After Zurich, he joined the ensemble of the Hessian State Theatre in Wiesbaden, where his roles included Wolfram von Eschenbach in Wagner’s Tannhäuser, Figaro and Conte Almaviva in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Papageno in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Figaro in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, Jeletsky in Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades, Peter in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, Sharpless in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and Fritz Kothner in Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. He also created the role of Snowman in Søren Nils Eichberg’s Oryx and Crake.
Niall Kinsella has established himself as one of Ireland’s most exciting, versatile and sought-after musicians. He has been described as “a meticulous collaborator” (BBC Music Magazine) and “a first-class calling card as a knowledgeable and profound song accompanist” (Merker, Austria). He has performed extensively across Europe as a song-recitalist, in Austria, Germany, Netherlands, France, Spain, Hungary, Czech-Republic, Italy and United Kingdom, in venues such as Wiener Musikverein, Wiener Konzerthaus, Mozarthaus Wien, The Liszt Academy, Budapest, St Martin-in-the-Fields, London, and National Concert Hall, Dublin.
