About this Event
Do you enjoy theatre that is rich in stories, written and performed by local writers and actors, and presented in an intimate 50-seat setting ? Then this new double-bill season is not to be missed. Why is it special? Because your ticket gives you entry to TWO shows. That's right - two shows for the price of one! With both of them created by Melbourne Writers' Theatre, and presented on the same stage at the Meat Market Stables, this promises to be a theatrical experience that will satisfy you and stay with you.
At 7.00pm, sit back and enjoy METROPOLIS MONOLOGUES. These entertaining 10-minute plays have been penned by the playwrights of Melbourne Writers' Theatre. They will be directed by Karyn Lee Greig and performed by an accomplished ensemble that features: Emerson Hansford, Stephen Najera, Natasha Broadstock, Sarah Hamilton, Asher Griffith-Jones, Charlie Boscolo, Monique Kerr, Charmaine Gorman, Clare Larman and Donna de Palma.
From 26th - 28th March we'll present Showcase 1: monologues written by Jennifer Beasley, James Hassett, Kat Adams, Christine Croyden and Alison Knight. From 29th March - 1st April we'll present Showcase 2: monologues written by Leisa Whyte, Jeannie Haughton, Louise Hopewell, Maree Collie and Bruce Shearer. Stories captured by a single voice, monologues draw the audience into another world, another time, another person's life. Whichever Showcase you come for, METROPOLIS MONOLOGUES is a theatrical event you won't want to miss.
Duration: 60 minutes
After METROPOLIS MONOLOGUES each night, we'll then have an Intermission. Grab a drink at the MWT Bar and chat to other patrons before heading back to your same seat at 8.30pm to watch the world premiere of the riveting new play WHO I'M DOING THIS FOR, written by Peter Farrar, directed by Steven T. Boltz and starring Lochie Laffin-Vines, Emily Farrell and Tony Adams. Winner of The 2026 Amethyst Award, offered annually by Melbourne Writers' Theatre for a new play of outstanding quality, originality and integrity, this compelling drama looks at the complex relationship between a father and son and asks: how far will we go to win the love of a parent? A richly human story in which the multi-talented Laffin-Vines (The Librar-IAN, A Streetcar Named Desire, Midsumma Night's Dream) teams up with the dramatic power of Farrell (Alien Love, The Weight of Dreams) and the grit of Tony Adams (Another F***ing Press Conference, Metropolis Monologues 2025), WHO I'M DOING THIS FOR will draw you into the world of Simon - desperate for love, searching for an answer - and hold you there.
