The Company of Merchant Adventurers of the City of York has a long and prestigious history of promoting enterprise, entrepreneurship and commercial ventures. They are an active force in the economic development of the City of York and its surrounds and its members are drawn from a wide range of professions and industries.
This event is delivered in partnership between the Company of Merchant Adventurers and Enterprise Works at the University of York. Join us for networking and insights from our guest speaker, William Derby.
William Derby is Chief Executive and Clerk of the Course at York Racecourse, a role he has held since 2003 after senior commercial roles at Ascot Racecourse. A chartered accountant and Harvard Business School alumnus, he has overseen York’s transformation into one of the UK’s leading sporting venues, winning multiple national awards including Racecourse of the Year. Under his leadership, York has hosted world-class racing, major national fixtures, and delivered award-winning, sustainable developments. York Racecourse now welcomes over 300,000 racegoers annually and plays a significant economic, charitable, and community role in the region.
