Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) provides the practical knowledge and skills to support to a person experiencing a mental health issue.
About this Event

Algonquin College's Pembroke Campus is hosting a two-day Mental Health First Aid Course that provides the practical knowledge and skills to support to a person who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being, or a mental health or substance use crisis until professional help is available. This training is facilitated by a Mental Health Commission of Canada qualified instructor. This is an excellent opportunity for local organizations or for members of the public!

Participants must commit to two full days of training in order to receive their certification. The course will be held at Algonquin College's Pembroke Campus on Monday, May 4 and Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

Daily Schedule

  • 8:00am Arrive on Campus
  • 8:30am-4:00pm Training

(lunch and breaks will be provided at a time identified by the facilitator)


The cost of certification is $287.50 per person + tax + Eventbrite fees.

Paid Parking is availiable on campus through the HONK mobile app.

Who Takes MHFA?

Everyone. Anyone can benefit from MHFA, and more than 300,000 Canadians have been trained already. From psychological health and safety in the workplace to schools and community groups to people in Northern Canada, MHFA has had a positive and long lasting impact on Canadians from coast to coast.


Does MHFA work?

MHFA is an international program active in over 20 countries. Research has shown that this evidence-based course offers significant positive impacts for participants and their workplaces, communities, and families, namely:

  • Significantly greater recognition of the most common mental health problems
  • Decreased social distance from people with mental health problems
  • Increased confidence in providing help to others
  • Improved mental health of the MHFA participant
