Do you know how to identify a mental health or addiction crisis? Here is your chance to become resource!
Fort Wayne friends - We are offering a Mental Health First Aid certification course on 3/21/26 at the Allen County Public Library
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an evidence‑based, early‑intervention training program designed to teach people how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges. It is administered nationally by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.
Just like CPR helps someone experiencing a physical emergency, MHFA trains people to assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis or developing a mental health/substance-use problem, providing initial support until appropriate professional help is available.
MHFA courses teach participants to recognize and respond to:
- Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges
- Common signs of substance use challenges
- How to interact with a person in crisis
- How to connect someone with appropriate support and resources
- Trauma-informed care, substance use, and self-care practices
I am certified to teach:
- Adult MHFA
- MHFA for military and veterans (and their families)
- MHFA for law enforcement
- MHFA for fire and rescue
- MHFA for EMS and trauma medical personnel
