About this Event
Identify. Understand. Respond.
Become Certified in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)
Mental health challenges are common, and knowing how to respond can make a life-changing difference. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a globally recognized certification course that empowers adults with the skills and confidence to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges, respond with compassion, and connect others to the support they need.
Why Attend Mental Health First Aid?
Just as CPR helps you assist someone experiencing a physical emergency, Mental Health First Aid prepares you to support someone facing a mental health or substance use challenge.
Through this interactive, evidence-based training, you will learn how to:
- Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges
- Understand how thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and appearance can signal someone may be struggling
- Respond with empathy, reassurance, and nonjudgmental listening
- Apply the MHFA Action Plan (ALGEE) to support individuals in both non-crisis and crisis situations
- Connect people to appropriate professional and community resources
- Support recovery and wellbeing, while maintaining safety, privacy, and boundaries
- Practice self-care strategies to sustain your own wellbeing after supporting others
You’ll leave with a practical, easy-to-use framework that can help you support colleagues, friends, family members, and members of your community.
What to Expect: Course Format
This blended certification course combines flexible online learning with engaging instructor-led training:

What Participants Are Saying
“ If you think Mental Health First Aid Training isn't for you, think again, it's not just for those in the mental health field, I walked away with skills and a frame of reference I can use in my daily life and now feel empowered to have real conversations which can be helpful to a family member, loved one, colleague, staff member, etc. who may benefit from mental health assistance.”
— Dawn Whalen, Executive Director, Rebuilding Together Hartford
“I found going through MHFA training to be immediately applicable as it gave me the tools to slow down and observe the people in my life at work, at home, and in the community. I was moved with emotions during the training that got me to get moving with these new skills to make a difference.”
— Darrin Tulley, CEO and Chief of Possibilities, Ignite Happy
