Holes in your clothes got you down? Join us to mend, learn (or share) a tip or two about mending, and nurture your human creative community!
About this Event

Repairing damaged garments and textiles is something that is perhaps best done in a cozy social setting, amongst others who are also mending their own textile projects. Even better, if there is tea and snacks and tunes involved.

We also recognize the need for community right now. Especially creative community that brings us back in contact with one another in an earthy, practical, social way. Our great-grandmas' kind of a good time that reclaims power from the big corporations and other interests that would prefer we constantly shop and depend on them for what we need in life. How satistfying, to be able to empower ourselves by repairing holes, and getting more use and enjoyment out of garments. To be creators, instead of consumers, for a bit.

In the spirit of getting together to make things, and make things better, come join us for a session of cloth repair in the unique and creative setting at LMN Wedge Studio, in the heart of Wicker Park, at the Flatiron Arts Building. A selection of teas and light snacks will be offered.

While no formal instruction on sewing or mending techniques will be offered, some of us have some experience fixing, sewing, patching, darning, and making visible or invisible garment repairs, and will be happy to share skills and ideas for how to fix your mending project. Do you have a sweater with a moth hole or two? A pair of jeans with a torn pocket? A shirt with a thread-bare elbow? A sock that shows your heel? Let's see about fixing it, and sipping and chatting and listening to good music while we do. If you are an experienced mender or sewing affcionado, but need a group setting to help you buckle down and actually complete a mending project, this is a great spot for you, too!

All ages are welcome, with the suggestion that adults accompany those under 16, or who might need more guidance or supervision. (for example: Grandmas, bring your grandkid, if you think they can have a meaningful time, and contribute to a calm and social-yet-focused group dynamic.)

There is no fixed price for entry, but we do appreciate a donation of something like $10+, whatever is doable. This helps us cover expenses, and keep doing what we are doing.. we accept cash, Zelle, and Venmo. If you'd like, email us at [email protected] or DM us at our Instagram: @lmn_wedge_art to save your spot, and pay at the door.

Hope to see you there!
