About this Event
We are pleased to invite you to the opening of Membranes, the new exhibition by DOM, taking place at Convento San Agustí on 4 June at 18:30.
The exhibition will remain on view until 26 June.
Membranes is a thin layer, a boundary that simultaneously separates and selectively allows passage.
In this project, two German artists — Katrin Bittel and Rainer Heidorn — enter into a dialogue in which the membrane becomes a metaphor for how we perceive the world around us. What we often read as “norm” is grasped visually, at the surface, while appearance is only a fragile threshold behind which entire universes unfold — in plants, in the human body, and in all living forms.
Rainer Heidorn works with the world of plants, directing his research inward. His gaze does not linger on form, colour, or composition; instead, it penetrates deeper into a space where almost invisible structures assemble into a living cosmos.
For Katrin Bittel, this universe is the human being. Her works turn toward what is usually hidden: the body, personal history, vulnerability, and inner strength. She approaches the human not as an image shaped by expectation, but as a complex living system. Just as fibres interweave in plant macrostructures, biography, memory, lived experience, physical reality, and imagination form a dense network of relations.
The membrane thus becomes both boundary and point of contact — between outside and inside, visible and concealed.
