Join us on Saturday, August 23 from 9am – 11am, for a PAC*SJ members-only tour guided hike through Alum Rock Park, California's oldest municipal park, established in 1872. Once a popular mineral springs resort and health retreat, the park is rich in history. On this tour, we'll explore its historic sites, from the stone grottos and bathhouse ruins to the legacy of Penitencia Creek and the park's role in the early development of public recreation in San Jose. You'll also have the opportunity to visit the park's Visitor Center, where you can delve deeper into the park’s natural and cultural history and hear directly from a park ranger about the stories and significance of the area.
Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply enjoy a scenic hike, this tour offers a fascinating look at the park’s cultural and natural heritage.
The hike will be just over a mile of (mostly) paved trail, with some uneven terrain and minimal elevation gain. Sturdy shoes and water are highly recommended.
This is a PAC*SJ members-only tour. Tickets are free, but advanced reservations are required. The exact meeting location will be shared with registered participants a few days prior to the tour date.
