About Shashi: “I came out as gay at 38 after years of questioning my sexuality. I had pushed down my desires, thinking it was normal for straight people to feel this way and that I couldn’t be gay since I had been with men. It was only after years of not dating and feeling disinterested in men that I finally allowed myself to explore my attraction to women. Once I shifted my dating profile to include women, everything clicked. I realised I was gay, came out to my family and friends, and began navigating this new chapter.
The fear of not fitting into the queer community was real. With straight, married friends and no openly queer role models, I had so many uncertainties. I eventually immersed myself in queer spaces, attending events alone and building friendships within the community. This inspired me to create Loving Her, an online space for women-loving-women in Melbourne, where we focus on real connections, support, and meetups. We already have around 750 members, and I’d love for you to join us on Facebook!”
