About this Event

Variations of this training have been delivered across New Zealand and Australia and online since 2012. Each year the training is updated to include current research and trends within this very specialised field. Integral to this training is the case examples and strategies that the facilitator has witnessed and used in her time working in the sector as a mental health specialist in this field, direct in-home support worker sustaining tenancies, a hoarding support group facilitator, a hoarding behaviour and strategist consultant for government bodies, and as a trainer developer and facilitator. Maire Barron the facilitator and developer of this training, has over 27 years experience working across the human services sector. Maire holds a Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences Majoring in Counselling among a plethora of other qualifications and trainings.

This training is aimed at a range of professions including but not limited to: housing and homelessness support workers, mental health, therapists, home care services, social workers, disability support, aged care, tenancy managers, cleaning and decluttering services, council health and safety officers, fire safety services, child protection, animal rescue, and at times concerned family and friends have attended.

Course Outline:

Trauma informed approaches and considerations, DSMV addition and definition, statistics and characteristics, different types of hoarding, working with challanging behavours, OH&S issues, at risk tenancies, children safety concerns, RSPCA, neighbours and council issues, strategies and examples for case coordination with multiple service providers, practical strategies for service users and therapeutic tools, real case examples used throughout to draw information from, links to helpful resources and websites, promotion of workers self-care and a focus on a reduction of vicarious trauma impacts.
