What better way to kick-start Brighton Festival month than on the dancefloor?Mehfil Space Club Night returns for its second edition at The Rose Hill, and this time, it goes deeper.
At the heart of the night is music producer DJ Equal-i, resident DJ of the seminal Anokha Asian Underground club night at the Blue Note Hoxton Square. Emerging from that pioneering 90s London scene, Equal-i’s sound continues to break down boundaries, electronic rhythms meet tabla, dub and global club culture.
That lineage continues to evolve on the night, with Equal-i playing pre-release tracks from his forthcoming album, bringing new material into the Mehfil Space for the first time.
Joining him is musician Milad Yousofi for a special live collaboration on Afghan rubab. First imagined when Milad performed at The Rose Hill last year, this meeting of sounds now comes to life, layering the raw, rhythmic beauty of the rubab over deep, tabla-driven beats, with echoes of Equal-i’s West Indian heritage in dialogue with global club culture.
The first Mehfil Space Club Night in February was an undeniable hit—selling out rapidly in true Mehfil style. The response was clear: you wanted more.
So here it is. Expect a rich journey through South Asian, Afghan, Arab, Afro and global breakbeats crafted for movement, connection and collective energy.
Be quick. Bring your dancing shoes. This one will move fast.
See you there, Mehfilators.
