About this Event

Public Library Services Branch (PLSB) invites you to participate in a training seminar on board governance, effective meetings, Robert's Rules of Order and parliamentary procedure.

This full day event is being held at the Airdrie Public Library on Thursday, May 14, 2026 from 9:30am to 4:00pm.

Registration is open to all municipal, intermunicipal, and library system board members.

Please note that while there is no cost to register for the seminar, meals, travel, accommodation, and any other expenses will be the participant’s responsibility.

Registration will close on Monday, May 11, 2026.

Capacity is limited and spaces will be filled in the order registrations are received. Later registrants may placed on a waitlist.


Seminar Description

In this seminar, we'll explore the foundational principles that ensure meetings are conducted with fairness and efficiency while fostering discussion that leads to better decision making. Topics covered will include meeting agendas, debate, rules of procedure, minutes, meeting culture, time savers, and quality enhancers.

While parliamentary procedure can seem daunting, our experienced facilitator will demonstrate how it can be scaled to the needs of the meeting or the organization. You'll learn how to better prepare for, participate in, and lead library board meetings. By doing so, you'll help support excellent library service in your community or region through better board governance.


About the Presenter

Todd Brand, M.A., PRP is an expert in meeting rules. Todd's background and training in organizational leadership span over twenty years. Todd currently serves as a school board Trustee for one of Canada's fastest growing school divisions. His education and wide experience cover many unique organizations and come together in his ability to coach, lead and train others for organizational effectiveness and his ability to provide exceptional parliamentary services.
