About this Event

This event is for those exploring postgraduate routes in art, design, architecture, communication, humanities and interdisciplinary practice. Learn more about how the RCA supports artists, designers and researchers to develop their work in an international context and what do prospective students need to know about living and studying in London?

You’re invited to meet Dr Chris Mitchell (Deputy Director of Academic Development and Programme Lead, Creative Education MEd) and Oliver Penny (Assistant Content Producer) in Cambridge for an in-person conversation about studying at the RCA.



What to expect
Tuesday 20 January 2026, 5.30-8.30pm

Portfolio workshop, 5.30-6.15pm

A 45 minute workshop to develop and improve your portfolios whether they are ready to submit or a first draft. Prepare one or two digital pages (research and process) to bring to the session.

Information talk and Q&A, 6.30-8.30pm

6.30pm - Guest arrivals and refreshments

7pm - About the RCA presentation and Q&A

8.30pm - End

Who is this event for
  • Those interested in postgraduate study at the Royal College of Art
  • Current RCA applicants and offer-holders
  • Friends and family are also welcome to join, though please ensure they have a ticket

You don't have to specialise in any discipline to attend this event: we welcome guests planning to apply to all subject areas.

Due to the postgraduate nature of RCA study, all attendees must be over 18.

About the host

(Deputy Director of Academic Development and Programme Lead, )

Chris is an experienced leader in UK higher education, with expertise in strategy development, curriculum design and educational innovation.

Chris has a leading role in the development of new academic frameworks, programmes and pedagogies at the College. This includes leading the MEd in Creative Education. He previously worked at the College as Head of Academic Development and Learning and Teaching Coordinator. Before that, he was Manager of the Economics Subject Centre of the Higher Education Academy.

Chris has an EdD from the UCL Institute of Education and an MA in Online and Distance Education from the Open University. He is also a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a Fellow of the Staff Educational Development Association (SEDA).
