Tom Steyer is running for Governor of California because Californians can no longer afford to live here. Tom is a business leader, climate activist, philanthropist, and long time San Francisco resident. He was among the first to sign The Giving Pledge, a commitment to give away the vast majority of his money during his lifetime. He led ballot proposition campaigns to defeat Big Oil on climate, closed a corporate tax loophole for out-of-state companies, and took on Big Tobacco to raise the cigarette tax. Through these efforts, Steyer raised billions of dollars for California’s healthcare and public schools, without Californians having to pay a cent.

As governor, Tom will make corporations pay their fair share to ensure our public schools have the resources to transform California into a top-ten state for education. He will launch the largest effort in state history to build homes that families can actually afford and break up utility monopolies to lower electric bills by 25%. Tom will also ban corporate PAC money from California elections so that our government serves the people, not special interests.

Tom is running to build a California that works for every resident. He believes that by removing the influence of special interests and tackling the housing and utility crises head-on, we can restore the California Dream and ensure the state remains a land of opportunity for generations to come.
