EN/ Iulian Bocai was among the emerging Romanian authors selected for the European talent development programme CELA in 2024. His debut novel won several awards in Romania and abroad. De Geus recently published a Dutch translation by Charlotte van Rooden. NL/ Iulian Bocai werd als een van de opkomende Roemeense auteurs geselecteerd voor het Europese talentontwikkelingsprogramma CELA in 2024. Zijn debuutroman "Het vreemde en aangrijpende leven van Priță Barsacu" won in Roemenië en daarbuiten al diverse prijzen, en verscheen onlangs in de Nederlandse vertaling van Charlotte van Rooden bij uitgeverij De Geus. Onze volgende writer-in-residence komt bij Passa Porta werken aan een nieuw boek, maar maakt ook graag tijd om te komen praten over zijn werk en zijn visie op het hedendaagse Roemenië.

FR/ Iulian Bocai a été sélectionné parmi les auteurs roumains émergents pour participer au programme européen de développement des talents CELA en 2024. Son premier roman Ciudata şi înduioşătoarea viaţă a lui Priţă Barsacu (« L’Etrange et tendre vie de Priţă Barsacu ») a déjà remporté plusieurs prix en Roumanie et à l’étranger. Pendant le mois d’octobre Bocai sera en résidence à Passa Porta, ou il travaillera intensément à un nouveau livre, mais prendra également le temps de venir parler de son œuvre et de sa vision de la Roumanie contemporaine.
