Gallery of Modern Masters invites the public to a special artist-focused event celebrating Australian painter and visual storyteller Pete Tillack. Join us Saturday, April 4, from Noon to 6:00 PM for an intimate afternoon of art, conversation, and storytelling as Tillack shares the journey behind his powerful, symbolic paintings.Tillack’s life odyssey began along the coastal landscapes of Australia. Once an electrician turned passionate surf traveler, his search for waves around the world evolved into a decade-long global adventure that ultimately transformed into a life devoted to painting. Along the way, travel, solitude, culture, and human connection shaped a visual language that is now unmistakably his own.
Working primarily in oil, Tillack creates deeply symbolic scenes that explore the human experience, introspection, connection, memory, and the passage of time. Many of his works feature a recurring motif: the couch. More than furniture, it becomes a metaphorical sanctuary, a place of rest, reflection, and emotional truth, echoing the artist’s lifelong search for a sense of home and belonging.
His paintings often touch on larger themes as well: politics, psychology, current events, and humanity. Rather than declaring positions, Tillack crafts allegorical narratives that invite viewers to think, feel, and reflect, creating space for personal interpretation across beliefs and backgrounds.
Masterful use of light and shadow gives his work a cinematic depth, while his blend of classical technique and contemporary sensibility results in paintings that are both visually striking and emotionally resonant.
This special Saturday event centers on meeting the artist and hearing Pete Tillack tell the stories behind his work, how travel, loss, hope, humor, and human complexity all find their way onto his canvas.
The event will also unveil new works, including:
“Embrace the Shadows” – Owl and Black Leopard, 50 x 30
“Adaptable Elegance” – White Snow Leopard, 50 x 30
These companion pieces explore duality, strength, vulnerability, and the quiet power of adaptation.
Visitors are also encouraged to attend the gallery’s First Friday Exhibition the night before, with extended hours until 7:00 PM, leading into this special Saturday gathering with wine and light refreshments.
Explore the profound evolution of an artist whose unconventional path has led to captivating, thought-provoking masterpieces that are both visually striking and emotionally resonant. Because in the end, we all have a story.
