Gabriel Furshong will be here to discuss his chapbook, 'Surrounding the Country a Chasm.' His chapbook won was the 2025 Hudson Valley Writers Center award. As Melissa Kwasny wrote, "[a]lthough the poems in Surrounding the Country A Chasm are set in the aftermath of the brutal thirty-six-year civil war in Guatemala, which ended in 1996, they take seriously a question especially resonant in our time: how to bear witness to the suffering of others, our 'eyes for looking and seeing / all that passes beyond reach.'"
Gabriel is a father, writer, and teacher from Helena, Montana. He reports for The Nation, High Country News, Montana Quarterly, and other magazines. We hope you can join us in welcoming him.
