ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Barbara Kimmel is an award-winning children’s book author and playwright who creates playful, interactive stories that engage young readers. Her debut board book, was named a “Best Jewish Holiday Children’s Book” by the Association of Jewish Libraries and featured on their 2024 list.
Barbara is also a playwright, with work produced in New York, London, Minneapolis, and other cities across the U.S. and abroad. Her play Reconstruction was selected for the 2022 Ivoryton Women Playwrights Festival, receiving an Ellie Award. She has received the Astra International Picture Book Writing Award and was chosen for the inaugural PJ Library Picture Book Summer Camp at the Highlights Foundation.
She is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and the Authors Guild. Beyond writing, Barbara advocates for dystonia, a neurological movement disorder she lives with, and has been a hospice volunteer for more than 15 years. She earned her B.A. from Brown University, where she made history as the university’s first female mascot, “The Brown Bear.” She and her husband live in Atlanta, Georgia, and are proud parents of three grown children.
