About the Author
Asjai Lou might be an LA native, but her showbiz soul was forged on the bustling streets of New York City. Her father, Kenneth Crutchfield was a renowned jazz musician on Broadway; her mother, Sharron Cannon, was an executive powerhouse in television and film; and her godfather, Jim Brubaker, the former head of Universal Pictures. Talk about being born for the spotlight! Growing up on film sets like I Like It Like That, Above the Rim, GIA, and The Devil’s Advocate, her playground wasn’t a sandbox—it was a world of cameras, stars, and backstage drama. Her first casting gig was Assisting the legendary Tracy Moore on New York Undercover—which led to her working with NYC music video queen Mellicent Dyane and with artists such as Kelis’s “Milkshake” and Juelz Santana’s “Whistle Song along with countless others featuring stars like Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, The Strokes, Lil’ Kim, The White Stripes, Kanye, West, and Mary J. Blige.
Moving to Hollywood after working on thousands of commercials and music videos, she became unstoppable. Asjai is a major force in the casting of American Idol contestants, Big Brother drama, and Real Housewives, to name a few. Currently, Asjai works with powerhouse networks like Bravo, ABC, CBS, VH1, and Lifetime, to name a few. She collaborates with top casting companies, including Divergent Content, owned by her casting big sis Diona Markewitz, and she’s part of the Fremantle team that brings American Idol to your screens yearly.
