Local poet Haley Valenta will be at Blue House Books on Saturday, March 21st to share her latest collection and spread the word about Self-Harm Awareness Month.Self-Harm Awareness Month is an unofficial awareness month that takes place annually during March when mental health organizations and individual activists come together to educate the public about self-harm. This outreach often includes spreading awareness about the prevalence, signs and symptoms, and prevention strategies of self-harm, as well as resources for those affected by it.
Haley will be at Blue House Books from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., chatting with readers and signing books. Her assortment of poetry collections are about healing and growth. Haley will be donating a portion of her sales to To Write Love On Her Arms, a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide.
Blue House Books will also be donating 10% of sales during the event to the same organization! This is a great time to support a fantastic local artist and a great cause!

Haley Valenta is a published poet from Kenosha, WI. Ever since the first grade, she has been determined to make her author dream come true (and she did). She started with writing lyrics in elementary school and then dabbled in a variety of genres before finding her home in poetry during her college years. She believes poetry should be complex but also touch the hearts of readers, and she works toward finding that balance whenever she writes.
