About this Event
Asian brush painting demands a balance of skill, mindfulness, and intuition. Each stroke is final — there’s no erasing, no second chances. When "heart, mind, and hand are in accord," the results can be truly magical. Learn the relaxing art of sumi brush painting with renown artist and teacher Bruce Iverson.
In this hands-on, day-long workshop, participants will learn the philosophy of sumi brush painting and calligraphy, and then practice the art themselves while learning to paint Iris. Iris is often called the “butterfly flower” and is a summertime favorite. Additional instruction will be given in painting a “swallow” to complete the traditional “host-guest” relationship in Asian brush painting. Each person will create two finished projects and leave with several handouts for practicing at home.
Bruce will have all materials available to use during the workshop so that you can complete the projects. This year we are offering the option to purchase a brush painting supply kit that you can have to take with you and continue working at home. These are the materials that Bruce recommends and include a brush, ink, inkstone and a roll of rice paper. This is optional; everything you need for the class is provided. You can select this to purchase when you check out.
