We all want to be happy. The still revolutionary insight of Buddha is that happiness and suffering ultimately depends on our mind and heart. How our heart and mind are really determines how we are. If we look it’s not so difficult to see this.
We can see that there are times when it may seem like we have everything but can still feel discontent and unhappy. On the other hand, through the practices of working with our mind, it is possible to maintain our peace of mind even in the midst of challenging circumstances. We can say that meditation is the practice of getting to know our own mind.
The whole of Buddha’s teachings are about discovering lasting happiness.
How can we create the conditions for this right now? By reducing the harm we do to others, we reduce our own negative circumstances. Through actions such as kindness and compassion we create positive circumstances and happiness. Then through the practice of working with our minds we discover that, in all of this, the most important factor is mind.
During the year we will explore the practice of meditation and practice together as a group. We will also explore key themes taught by the Buddha such as kindness, compassion and wisdom. There will be time for discussion and questions. Evenings are informal and relaxed and include a short tea break.
