About this Event
FREE TASTER SESSION - FRIDAY 17th APRIL 2026 - 1-2pm Dorchester Yoga & Therapy Centre (just turn up).
My name is Lucy Bowtell and I am an Intuitive Therapist. I began my career as a Registered Nurse, working in surgery and then Intensive Care. Whilst having enormous respect and gratitude for the wonders of modern medicine, I observed its limitations in prompting healing potential; especially when used passively, with fear or entirely in isolation. My curiosity around becoming an active partner in our own healing potential was very much sparked.
In the 20+ years that have passed since then, I studied and qualified in Clinical Hypnotherapy and am registered with The British Society for Academic & Clinical Hypnosis, which only registers medical professionals. I have also undertaken vast variations of study in the field of health including energy work, complementary therapies, coaching, nutrition and neuroscience.
Alongside knowledge and a lot of experience in my 1-1 practice, this has developed a strong intuition around how each individual person may benefit from blending different approaches to support their health - hence my working title as an ’Intuitive Therapist’.
This course creates an opportunity to tailor core skills and principles towards your own unique ‘prescription’ for well being. A toolkit you can continue to play with and develop alongside your every day life experiences as well as specific areas you may wish to work with yourself on.
The body is inherently wired for self repair and homeostasis. It always aims to balance, stabilise and return to a base of rest and safety. There are thousands upon thousands of things that stimulate the brain in a way that contributes either to ongoing discomfort and dis-ease and just as many ways to promote repair and health. Learning mindful meditation and self hypnosis creates a canvas for us to collaborate within ourselves and conduct this inner orchestra in a way that can accelerate repair and shape our experience.
Having studied and practiced both hypnotherapy, self help, neuroscience and meditation throughout my career I want to teach skills and equip people with the tools to tap into their own potential to support themselves mentally, emotionally and physically.
What is the course?
The term hypnosis often provokes caution as we fear this implies losing control in some way. In fact, it’s very much the opposite! Self hypnosis is a step deeper into meditation where we learn in a way that suits you, how to calm the active conscious chatty mind and move deeper into a state of conscious peace. This creates more connection and partnership between the body and mind.
Extensive studies show that through guided relaxation we can trigger particular brain waves that have been shown to demonstrate the most effective foundation for healing mechanisms as well as being able to adjust mindsets, beliefs and attitudes about yourself that you may welcome. When we imagine a healing process whilst in a meditative state, the brain does not discern any difference between it happening in reality or in our imagination. Either way, the neuropathways required for that process begin to form.
Similarly we can, through our thoughts, induce endorphins and responses which can be directed in a particular way to support us, such as calming waves to reduce muscle spasm or help with pain, a healing process or even a mindset desire.
This course is very individual and allows you to work entirely at your own pace, and experience only the level of calm and relaxation that you feel ready to invite. Nothing can happen that you do not choose or consent to in this gentle and safe practice.
It’s a 10 week course, starting Friday 1st May 1-2pm with in person sessions on alternate weeks (5 sessions in total) and resources to use at home in between.
- Be guided to experience to your own comfort level, how it feels to enter the calm meditative state.
- Explore this in a way that feels safe and in your control
- Learn the science behind brain waves and how they influence our physiological responses
- Practice and integrate methods to use self hypnosis, meditation and mindfulness on your own
- Learn how to individualise your practice. You need not share your situation in the group if you do not want to. You will be able to choose how you want to work with yourself. Examples could be:
Improve sleep
Support mindset
Create pain relief or symptom control support
Shift your attitude and belief around something important to you
Invoke more peace and calm
Manage stress
Support the nervous system
The course is £90 total to include the sessions and resources (payment plans available). There is also potential for a follow up ongoing regular drop in session to continue to practice and improve your practice.
