About this Event

In an increasingly censored media landscape, especially concerning Palestine and Gaza, and amidst an unprecedented flow of information—particularly on social media—discussing topics like Palestine can become challenging. This workshop aims to equip activists and supporters of Palestine with essential tools for effectively managing media messaging, with a focus on Palestine in general and Gaza in particular. It will highlight key challenges faced when communicating about these issues to both the media and the general public, and provide strategies to navigate these conversations effectively.
This workshop will be facilitated by Hala Sabbah, a diversity and inclusion consultant who specializes in the Middle East and North Africa (SWANA) and has over 12 years experience. Hala is Palestinian based in London and is the founder for Siyaq Solutions, a DEI consultancy (www.siyaqsolutions.com).
She will be joined by a guest speaker, Jehad Abu-Salim, a scholar, writer, and the Executive Director of the Institute for Palestine Studies-USA, based in Washington, DC. He is the co-editor of Light in Gaza: Writings Born of Fire (Haymarket Books, 2022), an anthology that highlights Palestinian perspectives on Gaza's complex past, present, and future. Abusalim grew up in Deir el-Balah, South of Gaza City, where his life, studies, and work in Gaza profoundly shaped his understanding of the region and fueled his dedication to educating others about Gaza and advocating for an end to its isolation and marginalisation.
