Beginning Your College Search is the foundational session in CKF's college readiness programming. Designed for students in grades 9 through 11, this session helps young people slow down and approach the college search process with intention rather than pressure. Before students ever open a browser or attend a college fair, they need to understand who they are, what they value, and what kind of environment will actually help them thrive.
This session walks students through self-reflection, institutional type literacy, college fit factors, and early timeline planning. It also addresses the emotional weight that comes with starting this process, the influence of family and community expectations, and how to build curiosity-driven exploration habits early. Students leave with a clearer sense of where to start, what questions to ask, and how to approach the next few years with confidence rather than anxiety.
