“That’s really good. That is so fire”..… “Love the content, love your voice, love the build”…. “I really like this song”- Ruslan KD review of “By His Blood” on God Bless Studios Music Review and feedback 12/19/25
… “Meagan wants this album to reflect on her faith, and provided a counter balance to the often negative imagery coming at young people through popular music today.” –Joe Christenson, Dripping Springs Century News July 17th, 2025
“Freedom is in Jesus” pleads the last lines of the song- “The Oldest Lie in the World”- (a song in which Satan speaks during the verses and the chorus offers a bold rebuke) informs the listener that this is not your typical gospel song heard in church on any given Sunday…. Meagan Tubb & Shady People have forged a new path with their 4th album. This is their first foray into the gospel genre which marks a departure from the band’s traditional subject matter. Meagan wasn’t looking to write a gospel album. It started out as a sleepless night after praying to God and asking “What is it you want me to say?” The next morning, Meagan awoke and wrote the words to the chorus of the song “By His Blood” and the call was answered. The genres on this album are wide-ranging but the subject matter is straight-forward. Meagan and her bandmates pivot between rock, blues, R&B, Mo-Town, to singer/songwriter ballads all while rooted in spiritual principles found in the bible and the life of a believer. Songs like “Fear Not” a rock song about the book of Revelation; “Sower Sowing Seeds” tells of the parable of the sower; and “Tell Me at the Well” a blues song that describes the story of the woman at the well in Sidon are derived directly from scripture. Other songs such as “Tattered Patches”- Meagan’s personal testimony of faith and “Rise Like Butterflies”-a lullaby that recalls the time Meagan explained the concept of death to her youngest daughter reveal vulnerable and personal insights into the journey of a believer. Still others like “Don’t You Go Searchin’” and “The Oldest Lie in the World” offer stark warnings to the listener against witchcraft and demonic deception. The Shady People brought their own unique gifts to bring this album to fruition. You can hear John Duran’s sublime drum solo on “We Got the Love of Jesus”, Jason Nunnenkamp’s exceptional lap steel solo on “Sower Sowing Seed”, Mario Castellano’s outstanding bass line on “Rise Like Butterflies”, Gavin Tabone’s soulful Rhodes melody on “Tell Me at the Well”, and Dave Madden’s inspiring string composition on “Tattered Patches” and “By His Blood”. At the helm, James Stevens co-produced this record with Meagan Tubb offering his unparalleled recording and producing capabilities and insight. His effort and patience helped to take raw sketches of these songs and turn them into the harmonious polished works they are. In the end, it is the sincerest hope that the listener will walk away feeling closer to the love of Jesus.
