Artist McLean Fletcher will open her show for the public to enjoy, featuring live music from bien.
McLean Fletcher is an internationally recognized painter, writer, actor and filmmaker. Raised in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia, she spent the last 15 years living all over the US and other parts of the world, and has recently made Richmond her home. Her work is deeply rooted in mysticism and explores the inseparability of the natural and spirit worlds. She creates guided by a faith that art transcends death, and it is through art that the collective consciousness evolves. McLean has a Master of Fine Arts in classical acting and Shakespeare from The George Washington University. She is also a certified Yoga instructor and Reiki practitioner, having studied in Bali, Indonesia. Her art and healing practices inform one another, holding space for the interconnectedness of the creative and wellness realms.
"These paintings are all self portraits. They are analogies of my soul as she battles fear and doubt, images of how I think I look on the outside as my body undergoes changes and ageing, and the subtle art of seeing myself in others. I am drawn to the concept of Mutual Arising, that everything is dependent on everything else; just as dark and light inform one another, so do the unseen and seen worlds. My work is an attempt to bring about this phenomenon in my own small way. At their best, these portraits might make an audience feel something, but at their very least they are prayers of gratitude for my life.
