Presented in partnership with the Consulate of Mexico in Houston.
Celebrate Mexican Independence Day with the stirring Grito ceremony followed by a rousing performance that encompasses the colorful heritage and culture of Mexico. This year’s spectacular performance will feature the incomparable Lupita Infante with special guest Jacqie Rivera.
Lupita Infante
The critically adored Mexican-American singer-songwriter Lupita Infante, is part of the emerging generation of ranchera artists who are so deeply steeped in their traditions, that they possess the confidence and expertise to brilliantly remake them for the new generation of listeners.
In 2023, Lupita released her latest album “Amor Como En Las Películas De Antes”, which was nominated at the 2024 GRAMMYs® for “Best Musica Mexicana Album (Including Tejano)”, making this her second-ever GRAMMY® nomination. The title is inspired by Lupita’s admiration for the golden age of Mexican cinema. This album is an eclectic mix of songs that honors both traditional and new Mariachi, breaking the generational barrier while making it distinctly her own.
Her name is instantly familiar to tens of millions of Mexicans, as she is the granddaughter of Pedro Infante Cruz (1917-1957), the most beloved Mexican singer and actor of the 20th century. Lupita Infante has achieved a multitude of awards and recognitions, such as receiving the Mayor Excellence Award from her home-city of Downey, CA and being nominated at the 2020 Latin GRAMMYs® for her song “Dejaré” (co-written with Luciano Luna). At the ceremony, she was backed by El Mariachi Sol de México to perform a warmly received tribute to her grandfather. Her debut album La Serenata was also nominated at this ceremony, as well as at the 2021 GRAMMYs®.
Lupita eventually signed with Sony Music Latin in 2022, and her career continued to develop and expand. Lupita studied Ethnomusicology at UCLA and joined the school’s renowned Mariachi de Uclatlán, which is the oldest university mariachi in the United States with an over 50-year trajectory. Studying ethnomusicology gave Lupita the chance to rediscover Pedro Infante’s legacy through the works of academics: “I would write about Mexican music and research women in mariachi music, and study machismo in Mexican music and how that translated through my grandfather. I think that was a lot more interesting than if I had majored in vocal performance.”
Despite Lupita coming from an iconic lineage, she has overcome boundaries to achieve commercial and critical success within her career. As a 2x GRAMMY@ nominee, Lupita Infante is solidifying her place as a leading female face in Musica Mexicana, while simultaneously becoming one of the most critically adored Musica Mexicana artists of the new generation.
Jacqie Rivera
Opening for Lupita will be the daughter of the famous regional Mexican artist, Jenni Rivera, and proud native of California, Jacquelin Melina Campos, known professionally as Jacqie Rivera, grew up immersed in the world of music since her childhood. She undoubtedly inherited her mother’s talent and today stands out As one of the most promising emerging artists on the scene today, Jacqie has charted her own path in music by fusing a variety of sounds that reflect her Mexican-American roots, thus creating what she calls “Fusion Music.
With more than 3.5 million on her social media and with her singles accumulating more than 11 million views, Jacqie is fully immersed in the creation of new material. Her music attracts a captivated audience eager to hear her majestic voice, honoring the legacy of the unforgettable “La Diva De La Banda,” Jenni Rivera.
