Fusing the traditional mbira instrument with contemporary guitar, keyboard and brass instruments, the Mbira Renaissance Band offers a fresh, energetic yet delicately balanced sonic experience. Cyclical and simultaneously improvisational, the Mbira Renaissance Band serves a unique take on the contemporary mbira sound with splashes of reggae, afro jazz, chimurenga and afro-pop.
Twice nominated for the Edmonton Music Awards, the Mbira Renaissance band is currently working on its third studio album, with a release planned for spring/summer 2025. Their 2018 album, Famba is available on all major streaming platforms. The band has performed across Canada, including the Salmon Arms Roots and Blues Festival, the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival and the Edmonton International Jazz Fest.
