Manny Yekutiel interviews both the subject and the author.
About this Event
Join us Wednesday, December 11th at 6 pm to hear “Mayor of the Tenderloin” Del Seymour and the author of the book about him, Alison Owings, be interviewed live by Manny’s own Manny Yuketiel.
Following the interview, there will be time for questions and answers and an opportunity for the first 20 people to purchase a copy of the book, which Del and Alison will gladly sign.
Del Seymour, the unofficial Mayor of the Tenderloin. Trained as a paramedic, electrician, and plumber, Del succumbed to some 18 years of crack addiction and attendant homelessness, primarily in the Tenderloin. He not only managed to get clean but to start a new life, first forming Tenderloin Walking Tours, then founding Code Tenderloin, the remarkable free jobs training organization that helps people as disenfranchised as he once was himself, get and keep a job. He is also co-chair of San Francisco’s Homeless Coordinating Committee.
Alison Owings, journalist, and oral historian. A former television news writer (including for CBS), Alison turned her writing attention to confronting stereotypes, first by interviewing individuals within them. She is the author of Frauen: German Women Recall the Third Reich (a New York Times Notable Book of the Year), Indian Voices: Listening to Native Americans, Hey, Waitress!: The USA from the Other Side of the Tray, and as of September, Mayor of the Tenderloin / Del Seymour’s Journey from Living on the Streets to Fighting Homeless in San Francisco.
