We are delighted to welcome you back to the Consulate General of Ireland on May 5th for our monthly First Friday Networking Breakfast.
TEENAGE KICKS: BELFAST MUSICAL COMES TO NEW YORK
For our next First Friday we are celebrating the great music of 1970s Belfast in honour of the upcoming US Premiere of Good Vibrations: A Punk Rock Musical, coming to Irish Arts Center in Manhattan this summer. Good Vibrations tells the story of a beloved record store and label which was a safe haven from the violence that haunted 1970s Belfast. The thrilling new musical features a cast of twelve and a bounty of anthems from Northern Ireland’s punk era, including the Undertones’ “Teenage Kicks,” the Outcasts’ “Just Another Teenage Rebel,” and Stiff Little Fingers’ “Alternative Ulster.”
We will be joined for First Friday by The Pogues' Cait O’Riordan, IAC Executive Director Aidan Connolly, and a video greeting from rehearsals in Belfast. Our good friends from the Northern Ireland Bureau in DC and colleagues from the all-island body, Tourism Ireland, will also join and our Ambassador, Geraldine Byrne Nason, will attend.
Along with a short video excerpt from the show, guests will be treated to breakfast treats, served with a Northern Ireland twist (and all are welcome to embrace the themes of psychedelic and punk rock music in their choice of outfit – this is optional of course!!!).
Produced by Belfast’s Lyric Theatre, Good Vibrations arrives in New York alongside the commemorations of the 25th Anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement #GFA25. It begins previews at Irish Arts Center on June 14 and opens June 18 for a limited run through July 9.
