About This Event
The grills will be hot, the music will be playing, and the lawn at the Charles Atkins Opportunity Gardens will be full of neighbors, friends, and families gathered together for the first annual May Day Solidarity Cookout!
The Saint Bénézet Catholic Worker Community at Church of the Redeemer and Friendship Baptist Church are joining hands to celebrate May Day — the international day honoring working people, the dignity of labor, and the power of regular folks making change together.
This is a family reunion-style event — whether you're family by blood, by block, or by faith, you are welcome at this table.
What's Happening
· The Grub: We'll have vendors and food trucks on-site serving up all the favorites.
· The Word: Inspiring words from community and labor leaders about working together and lifting each other up.
· The Look: Need a fresh lineup or a shape-up? We've got free haircuts available (while supplies last, so don't sleep on it!).
· For the Littles: Face painting and room to run around on the grass.
· The Vibe: Cold drinks, good music, and real fellowship. Come ready to laugh, talk, and connect with your neighbors.
Why You Need to Be There
· No tickets. No gatekeeping. Just come.
· It's Family: Something for the kids, something for the grown folks, and space for everyone in between.
· It's Community: Meet the folks from Saint Bénézet, Friendship Baptist, Church of the Redeemer, and tons of neighbors who care about the same things you do.
A Little About May Day
May Day has long been a day when ordinary people gather to celebrate the dignity of work and the power of solidarity. For us, it's also a reminder that the strongest communities are the ones where people know each other, care for each other, and stand together when it matters.
This cookout is a small but joyful way to practice that.
Additional Details
· Parking: Street parking is available. Please be mindful of our neighbors' driveways and consider carpooling if you're coming with a full crew.
· What to Bring: A lawn chair or blanket, your appetite, and your Sunday smile.
For real though: come through, pull up a chair, and break bread with us. Let's kick off May Day right, showing what solidarity looks like when the community comes together on the Eastside.
Invite your folks and tap that "Going" button so we know you're coming!
