The Rockford Park District's Outdoor Education and Recreation department invites you to a monthly Craft Club series, where we will be diving into nature-themed crafting experiences. From whittling to clay to willow weaving and so many things in between, sign up for one or several courses in this series as we learn introductory techniques for a wide variety of unique and creative activities selected to broaden your crafting horizons. Each course is meant to be a standalone experience that compliments other projects within the series. Courses will be two hours in length, setting you up with the basics to complete each project. Seasonally, Craft Club will rotate between locations: Atwood Center and the lodge at Alpine Hills Adventure Park. Come find a new perspective on an old favorite crafting activity or learn something completely new!For our May Craft Club installment, unlock the secrets of history and craftsmanship! This introductory course plunges you into the authentic art of making your own quill pen from a feather and crafting natural inks. You will be transforming raw materials into elegant writing tools used by scribes, authors, and artists for centuries. Experience the tactile, creative process as you learn to temper feathers, cut nibs, and mix plant-based inks, connecting with the past through a rewarding, hands-on project that teaches patience, history, and art in one stroke. Materials will be provided.
May's Craft Club will be held at Alpine Hills Adventure Park (4402 Larson Ave, Rockford IL). Registration is $20 per session. Must be age 16 and up to register. Crafting supplies will be provided. See less
