Johannes Brahms: String Quartet No 2 in A minor, Op 51 No 2
Eleanor Alberga: String Quartet No 4 (Irish première)
and a selection of folk music from Scotland and Ireland
“Take note of the Maxwell Quartet... they bring charisma and a sense of adventure to their programmes” (The New York Times).
The Dublin International Chamber Music Festival has most certainly taken note of these infectious musicians and is delighted to welcome them to Dublin for the first time to open the 2026 festival at Rathfarnham Castle.
Combining a refined approach to classical works with a passion for their own folk heritage and a commitment to expanding the string quartet repertoire through wide-ranging projects, on the occasion of their DICMF début the Maxwell Quartet performs Brahms’ Second String Quartet alongside an ambitious new work for string quartet by the Jamaican/British composer, Eleanor Alberga. co-commissioned by DICMF, the Amsterdam String Quartet Biennale and Maxwell Quartet Music.
In addition to bringing a significant new string quartet by Eleanor Alberga to Irish audiences, the Scottish Maxwell Quartet looks forward to collaborating with the award-winning Irish singer Méav Ní Mhaolchatha in a programme that blends their shared celtic connections in music.
