About this Event
What makes amazing women tick?
Listening to other women's stories about pursuing their passion can help challenge "single stories" or dominant narratives about the right way to "do life". These stories will uplift, educate, and inspire, even if their passion is not yours.
Each evening will feature an in-person interview and Q&A, along with a facilitated social activity. Don't worry if you don't know anyone when you arrive, you will sure to know a few folks when you leave. Alternativley, feel free to make this a regular "Women's Night". We can't think of a better way to be with friends.
Spring dates will be held at Zou Zou's Cafe in Chelsea from 7:00 - 8:30 pm. Speaker lineup will be updated as confirmed. Tickets are limited. Tickets include mocktails and snacks. Participants are also welcome to purchase other beverages at bar.
On Thursday, March 19, 2026, The Sky presents the incomparable Sylvia Nolasco-Rivers as the inaugural Maven interview at Zou Zou’s Cafe. An Ann Arbor area legend in the making, Sylvia is sure to inspire even the most weary hearts with her amazing American story of lifelong activism, leading with love, and delicious food.
As a child Sylvia came to the US from El Salvador through the Sanctuary Movement in the 1980’s. She has been fighting for immigrants rights and making amazing food her whole life. She owns Pilar’s Tamales, leads Pilar’s Foundation, and is a lovely force to be reckoned with.In addition to being inspired by Sylvia’s story there will also be a fun, interactive networking activity (maybe making horchata?), themed signature mocktails (did someone mention hibiscus?), and Salvadoran nibbles (yum!). Perfect for an intergenerational audience and just about anyone who could use a bit of inspiration and community.
On Thursday, April 9, 2026, Mavens & Mocktails will feature Kymm Clark who designs, fabricates, and restores furniture at her Ann Arbor based LullCo Design Studio. She also offers ongoing short and long-term upholstery and furniture restoration education (and she is a social media superstar)! As a self-taught artist, Kymm has taken her passion of “turning trash into treasure” to inspiring heights.
On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, we welcome Belinda Dulin and Germaine Smith, the Executive and Assistant Directors of The Dispute Resolution Center. Empowering others is central to their mission, at work and in life. Learn more about mediation, restorative justice, and tools these women use to center self-advocacy in they way they move through the world.
