This class is designed for beginner paddlers—those who have paddled a few times and want to build confidence, skill, and understanding on the water. Kayaking is about much more than moving in a straight line, and this session focuses on learning how to control and maneuver your kayak effectively.During this 3–4 hour session, you’ll learn essential paddle skills to steer around obstacles, make efficient turns using body movement, and improve overall paddle control.
We’ll begin with a short shore-based classroom discussion before getting on the water, covering important kayaking concepts you may not have considered before. On the water, you’ll learn how to safely enter and exit a kayak (including a wet exit, if desired), use proper body mechanics (not just your arms), turn your kayak efficiently, practice balance through fun kayak games, and finish with a relaxed paddle on the lake.
Yes—you should expect to get wet, and that’s part of the fun!
You’re welcome to bring your own kayak, or you may use one of ours (kayak, paddle, and PFD included) on a first-come, first-served basis for up to 8 participants. Class size is limited to ensure personalized instruction.
