The tour follows the release of his sixth studio album Hers – his most insular and intimate record yet, and his first fully self-produced effort since his acclaimed 2019 LP Krystal.
Existing in a twilight world, Hers pairs heartfelt songwriting and dry witticism with the gentle quiver of strings, a flourish of woodwind and the sound of a creaking old piano. It captures Maltese at his most personal, trading irony for honesty and humour for vulnerability.
Much like kindred spirits Randy Newman and Father John Misty, beneath Maltese’s sumptuous melodies and classic pop craftsmanship there’s always a lyric that stops you in your tracks – sometimes breaking your heart, sometimes making you laugh. Across the album’s eleven tracks, Maltese’s trademark wit is still present but wielded with restraint, often emerging through self-deprecation and quiet revelation.
Having first established himself in 2018 with his debut Bad Contestant, Maltese has since evolved into one of the UK’s finest young songwriters. The albums that followed cemented his reputation for transforming the mundane into something dream-like, his piano harmonies, playful lyricism and quintessentially British wit resonating around the world.
In late 2024, Maltese embarked on a headline tour across Asia, Australia and New Zealand, following sold-out runs through the US, Europe and the UK – including his biggest performances to date at The Wiltern in Los Angeles and London’s Electric Brixton. With Hers, he now steps into an even bigger chapter: playing to larger rooms than ever before and connecting with an audience that continues to grow from Sydney to São Paulo, Jakarta to Tokyo.
