MATMOS — Live in AthensScenius series
For more than three decades, Matmos have been redefining what electronic music can be.
The duo of Drew Daniel and M.C. Schmidt transform unexpected sound sources — from everyday objects and unusual field recordings to conceptual systems and material processes — into intricate rhythmic and sonic structures.
Balancing precision, humour and radical curiosity, Matmos move between sound art, experimental electronics and playful sonic research, turning microscopic details into immersive musical experiences.
Their latest work, Metallic Life Review, is built entirely from the sounds of metal — struck, bowed, rubbed, processed and transformed — a material approach to sound that finds a natural home in the industrial space of PLYFA.
Opening set: Jay Glass Dubs
A distinct voice in contemporary experimental electronics, Jay Glass Dubs brings his fragmented, dub-informed approach to sound as the opening act for Matmos in Athens.
A rare Athens appearance as part of the Scenius series.

Εδώ και πάνω από τρεις δεκαετίες, οι Matmos επαναπροσδιορίζουν το τι μπορεί να είναι η ηλεκτρονική μουσική.
Το ντουέτο των Drew Daniel και M.C. Schmidt μεταμορφώνει απρόσμενες ηχητικές πηγές — από καθημερινά αντικείμενα και ασυνήθιστες ηχογραφήσεις πεδίου μέχρι εννοιολογικά συστήματα και υλικές διαδικασίες — σε σύνθετες ρυθμικές και ηχητικές δομές.
Με ακρίβεια, χιούμορ και ριζική περιέργεια, οι Matmos κινούνται ανάμεσα στο sound art, την πειραματική ηλεκτρονική μουσική και την παιγνιώδη ηχητική έρευνα, μετατρέποντας μικροσκοπικές λεπτομέρειες σε καθηλωτικές μουσικές εμπειρίες.
Η πρόσφατη δουλειά τους, Metallic Life Review, είναι φτιαγμένη αποκλειστικά από ήχους μετάλλου - χτυπημένου, τριμμένου, δονούμενου, επεξεργασμένου και μεταμορφωμένου - μια υλική προσέγγιση στον ήχο που βρίσκει έναν φυσικό χώρο στη βιομηχανική ατμόσφαιρα της ΠΛΥΦΑ.
