About this Event
Current statistics indicate that 1 in 5 birth mothers will experience a diagnosed perinatal mood and/or anxiety disorder. It is crucial for every clinician to have a foundational understanding of how to prevent, identify, and treat these symptoms.
Supporting a client experiencing a severe episode of a perinatal mental health disorder can be daunting for clinicians. It is essential for clinicians to be able to distinguish between true safety risks, like psychosis, versus more commonly experienced intrusive thoughts. This understanding allows clinicians to respond appropriately, without overreacting or underreacting, which is vital for the therapeutic relationship during this challenging period.
This workshop will provide an overview of most common perinatal mood disorders and their symptoms, including identifying and treating, in both acute and longer term models of intervention.
