Maternal Burn

Maternal Burn is Hey Birdie’s annual ritual, now in its fifth year, honoring the maternal archetype in all her forms.

Rooted in embodied practice and collective ritual, this experience invites participants to release inherited burdens and reclaim the maternal qualities they choose to carry forward.

Each year, the ceremony centers on:

• Reflection — recognizing what has been held, often unconsciously
• Embodiment — connecting to the body as a site of truth and memory
• Ritual Binding + Fire — symbolically releasing what is no longer ours to carry
• Reclamation — returning to self with greater clarity, agency, and vitality

Inspired by ancient practices such as Tarpana (ritual offering and release), and informed by Ayurvedic and Tantric traditions, Maternal Burn creates space for grief, tenderness, truth, and power to coexist.

At its core, Maternal Burn explores the maternal archetype as a living energy: the one who tends, gives, holds, and creates— and the one who learns to receive.

This ritual is not limited to motherhood, but to anyone who has mothered in any form—people, work, identities, or expectations—and is ready to release what no longer serves.
