About this event
Matéando is a small, hosted gathering built around sharing Argentine yerba mate (pronounced “mah-teh”). It’s an alcohol-free way to spend a couple of hours with others, slowing down, talking and getting to know people through a simple shared ritual.
During the session I’ll show you how to prepare and drink yerba mate, explain a bit of the culture behind it and serve it in a few different ways so you can find a style you enjoy.
Who’s hosting?
I’m Dominic, a hospitality professional who’s spent over a decade working in hostels and hotels around the world. It’s that background in hospitality that gave me the idea of bringing the social ritual of yerba mate to people who’ve never experienced it before. I was introduced to mate by my Argentine wife, and I’ve trained as a Yerba Mate Sommelier with the Escuela Argentina de Yerba Mate.I created Matéando because I think a lot of us feel more isolated than we admit, and I wanted a gentle, welcoming space where people can come alone, meet others and feel part of something – while also experiencing the unique ritual and flavour of yerba mate.
Who is it for?
It’s aimed at people who want more than small talk – who enjoy open, honest conversation and are curious about other people’s views. This is especially for people who might come on their own, feel a bit shy or just want a different kind of social night. Couples and friends are also welcome, but the way I host it means no one is left out.
